• A sculpture of François Grimaldi, 'La Malizia', by sculptor Kees Verkade. The sculpture was placed in 1997 to honor the 700th anniversary of Grimaldi's takeover of the Principality of Monaco. Grimaldi accomplished the takeover by pretending to be a monk.

• Carob tree - Because carob seeds are a constant weight of 200 mg, they once served as a unit of weight, between gold traders in particular, in Africa and then India. This is the origin of the carat, a unit of weight used to measure precious stones. The carob tree was chosen as Monaco's national tree by H.S.H. Prince Rainier III in 1995.
