The atmospheric conditions that produce this phenomena don't occur often in Corvallis. When they do, the results are beautiful. They can also be quite damaging. The weight of the ice can break tree branches and even bring down large trees. We escaped serious damage this time.

From this perspective, the ice on the Japanese maples had a pinkish hue.

The weight of the ice on the Douglas fir branches caused the lowest branches to touch the ground.

After the ice melted, the branches returned to their normal positions.
