The Kam Wah Chung Company Building was built in 1866 or 1867. It was acquired by Chinese immigrants Ing 'Doc' Hay and Lung On who came to John Day during the Canyon Creek gold rush. The building was their residence and housed Ing Hay's medical practice and apothecary and Lung On's general store.
