The North Umpqua River
Our 32nd Wedding Anniversary Trip
For our 32nd wedding anniversary, we hiked and explored a few of the waterfalls along the North Umpqua River in southwestern Oregon. We stayed at the Steamboat Inn where the accomodations were wonderful and the food delicious. The dining is "family style" and we very much enjoyed the company. There were people from all over the country. None of those sitting near us at the dinner table were from Oregon! We had beautiful weather and enjoyed the hikes to three of the waterfalls on tributaries to the N Umpqua. Watson Falls is not only the tallest waterfall in southern Oregon, it is the highest in elevation of the three waterfalls to which we hiked, nearing the pass on the N Umpqua highway. There were some mosquitoes there. Both Fall Creek Falls and Susan Creek Falls are at lower elevation and there were no mosquitoes, but there was Poison Oak everywhere! I never thought I would say this, but I prefer mosquitoes!
