Tours d'Art Los Angeles Architecture tour
Feb 25, 2026
On the first day, we toured the Walt Disney Concert Hall, visited The Broad art museum, and were led on an architecture tour of downtown Los Angeles by a Los Angeles Conservancy guide. We learned that, historically, Los Angeles had a height restriction of 150 feet (about 12 stories) for buildings in the city center. This restriction was removed in 1957-58. Our lodging for the tour was the Los Angeles Athletic Club, which in addition to its many athletic facilities, includes hotel rooms on the top three (10th-12th) floors. The twelve-story Beaux-Arts style clubhouse was designed for the LAAC by John Parkinson and George Bergstrom and built in 1912. It is a Los Angeles Historic Cultural Monument.
