• Architect Bruce Goff was in the Navy during World War II. He served in the Seabees. This design draws from his experience with Quonset huts.

• Structural support is provided by the curved steel beams. The walls are constructed of coal and slag glass, mortared in place as if they were stone.

• A circular platform creates semicircular balconies on both the outside (shown here) and inside of the house. While this railing is minimal, the inside balcony has no railing at all.

• Interior side of a coal and slag glass wall. Colored marbles were incorporated into the mortar near the slag glass.

• The three levels of the house. The Balcony is the top level, the Living Room and the two Bedrooms are located on the middle level, and the Kitchen and Dining Room/Lounge are located on the lowest level.

• Nautical rope and cypress clapboard finished many of the ceilings and walls.

• Originally built as a farm house, the Muirhead house is now owned by the third generation. The gentleman in the lower right of this photo is the son of the original owners.

• The taller roof houses the Living Room. The lower structure to the left is the Bedroom wing.

• Most of the acreage of the original farm is now part of an Illinois State Park. The farm buildings are part of the property, including the house, still owned by the Muirhead family.

• The house is divided by the gallery (hallway) shown in the center of this photo. To the left is the Kitchen and Dining Room, often used to serve meals to farm hands.

• Emma Glasner Pettit commissioned Wright to design this chapel as a memorial to her husband, Dr. William H. Pettit.

• Dr. and Mrs. Pettit are buried near the chapel.

• Laurent House is one of Wright's hemicycle designs.

• The Laurent House is the only house Wright designed for a person in a wheel chair. Thus, the wide hallways and accessable bathroom.

• It was raining, and it was going to rain.

• The Fredrick House was in the process of a complete renovation.

• The renovation of the exterior was nearly complete.

• The Fredrick House has a Rumford fireplace. Most, if not all, other Wright fireplaces are of the Franklin style. Rumford fireplaces generally draw better and radiate more heat into the room.

• Much remained to be done for the interior renovation.

• We enjoyed a reception hosted by the owners of the Gridley House.

• Interior photos were not permitted.

• This is one of several cast concrete monuments that mark the entrances to the Ravine Bluffs development. The monuments have recently been restored by the Village of Glencoe, as the originals had severely deteriorated.

• The Booth House was purchased in 1967 by Theodore and Sonia Bloch. Mr. Bloch died in 2015, and after living in the house for 50 years, Mrs. Bloch has recently moved to a senior living apartment and put the house up for sale.

• Mrs. Bloch and her daughter hosted our tour and provided a wonderful history of the Bloch family's time in the house.

• In at least one book on Wright houses, the design of this driveway entrance lamp is credited to Wright. In fact, it was designed by Sonia Bloch.
