• We made the short walk (about 30 minutes round-trip) to Anascaul Falls in the driving rain. When we returned to the Vagatron, JaVonne summed up the experience nicely: 'A river runs through me.'

• In 1588, after a sound defeat in the English Channel, the Spanish Armada circumnavigated the British Isles in a counter-clockwise direction ultimately trying to return to Spain via the west coast of Ireland.

• Our next stop on the Slea Head drive was the Gallarus Oratory, a significant site along the Pilgrim's Walk.
