This 6th or 7th century stone ringfort was the seat of the Kingdom of Aileach. The wall is about 4.5 metres (15 ft) thick and 5 metres (16 ft) high. It has three terraces, which are linked by steps, and two long passages within the walls. Originally, there were buildings inside the ringfort. Most of the ringfort was destroyed in the 12th century. Restoration occurred in 1870.
