• Hans Heysen was a noted Australian painter. His family immigrated from Germany when he was six years old and settled in Adelaide, South Australia.

• In his mid-thirties, Heysen had earned enough from his painting to purchase 'The Cedars' near Hahndorf, where he lived and painted for the remainder of his life. This is the Heysen home at The Cedars.

• Locations on The Cedars property were the subjects of many of Heysen's paintings. The sign in the foreground of this photo shows a copy of a painting Heysen created of this scene near the home and studio.
