• The Watzek House on Skyline Blvd in the West Hills of Portland was the first building designed by John Yeon. The house is revealed at the end of a driveway that is a tunnel of greenery. This landscaped journey toward discovery of the house was planned by Yeon. Landscape, both natural and planned, defines Yeon's Northwest Style of architecture.

• This 28 foot long beam is an expression of the magnificent wood used and celebrated in the construction of the home. Aubrey Watzek, original owner and friend of the Yeon family, was a lumberman.

• Yeon bought the house from the Watzek estate following Aubrey Watzek's death in 1973. Yeon's friend Richard Lewis Brown lived in the house, cared for it, and inherited it upon Yeon's death in 1994. The furniture in the Guest Bedroom is from Brown's collection. Brown donated the house to the University of Oregon in 2009.

• Yeon designed this venting system to accommodate stationary windows that could then be installed without casings and hardware.

• Soon after the Watzek house was completed, it was featured in an exhibition at New York's Museum of Modern Art and in architectural publications of the era, which catapulted Yeon and his Northwest architecture into the forefront of modern residential design.

• This exterior downspout replaces an interior downspout that has failed. Note the thin and densely layered roof shakes.
